When each son reached 16 or 17 years old, an initiation backpacking hike followed. The most successful was with eldest son Ramon: a wonderful hike in the Canadian Rockies, reached via Calgary and then Banff. Ramon continued in the hiking path, perfecting a minimal pack-weight philosophy and carrying a solar sheet on the outside of his pack to keep his phone fully powered.
