Adirondack Hike: Trailhead and Flooded Crossing

By foo.barstein

After moving to New York in late 1977, an Adirondack hike was planned during Brian’s visit the following summer. The Adirondacks formed a huge forest area in northern New York State. At the trailhead, Brian and Tony began the hike after being dropped off. About an hour in, a crossing of trails was reached, but the area around the trail-post was flooded—possibly by beaver activity. With no choice but to go off-trail, the flooded area was skirted anticlockwise through dense forest and gaps in tree branches. The flooding was extensive and the detour went on and on.
