Pitsunda is one of the big pilgrimage points. In the late 1960s, Zurab Tsereteli designed part of a series of nine Abkhaz bus stops in Pitsunda, Gagra, and Novy Afon, using reinforced concrete, mosaics, and cobalt glass; one of the Pitsunda stops is remembered as Variation on the Theme of Sea Inhabitants, a seaside fantasy where marine life and magical-realist energy wash right into everyday transit. This is where the Black Sea really gets into the architecture.
