Le Dôme appears in literature as part of the great Montparnasse exchange system: artists, models, lovers, opportunists, and the broke all passing through one visible room. In Miller especially, cafés like Le Dôme are less about dining than about survival through talk, chance, and performance. Its literary role is social circulation. Authors choose it when they need a place where bohemian Paris becomes legible all at once: hunger and pose, literary ambition and self-invention, all happening over tables that are half office and half stage.
