One of London's best-known lost rivers, once flowing from the Hampstead area toward the Thames. It now survives in fragments, drains, and place memory, including a few points where the city's hidden plumbing seems to confess its older geography. The Tyburn is a favorite of urban folklore because it appears to have been both a river and a disappearing act.
