A former valley corridor associated with the lost Minetta Brook, now tucked beneath one of Manhattan’s most fashion-conscious neighborhoods. Valleys are patient; cities are not. The land remembers the old drainage route even when the street life has moved on to storefronts and traffic. It is an especially amusing kind of hidden geography: one of the island’s more fashionable districts still owes its shape to an old creek.
