A vanished dockside watercourse once threaded through the commercial landscape here before being buried beneath later works and redevelopment. Former waterways in port cities often had careers as industrious as any office tower: hauling goods, serving mills, then disappearing under the next round of improvement. The amusement is that the replacement is usually another form of transport, just with less water and more paperwork.
