lost waterways and buried channels

Tanner Creek Gulch

By hello

This feature traces the former lower Tanner Creek corridor through Portland's west side. The creek once ran openly through a deep gulch toward wetlands and Couch Lake, but the lower channel was absorbed into a large sewer works in the late nineteenth century. Although the open stream is gone here, the vanished gulch still helps explain the shape of the neighborhood and the later effort to memorialize the creek in nearby landscape design.
