outdoor murals of the world

Union Silos

By hello

At the former Farmer's Union Co-op grain silos in downtown Minot, Guido van Helten transformed industrial concrete into North Dakota's largest mural. The project belongs to his Monuments series and is rooted in local identity rather than imported spectacle: photography and public engagement shaped imagery meant to reflect the people, culture, and architectural history of the region. Its scale makes it instantly legible from a distance, but the power of the work comes from the way a working prairie landmark is reimagined as a portrait of community memory.
