standing disused dams

Low-Head Dams

By hello

These low-head dams were once used to slow water, maintain upstream water levels, and help with irrigation, milling, or water control. Over time, they fell out of use and became a safety hazard because the recirculating currents below them can trap people, boats, and debris. The plan is to demolish the dams to remove that danger, improve river safety, and restore more natural water flow and fish passage. In their place, the site will be left as a safer free-flowing river section, often with streambank restoration, riffles, or other habitat improvements depending on the project.
