A 2nd-century Roman dam, Kasserine is variously classified as an arch-gravity or gravity structure. It used an earth-and-rubble core faced with mortared cut stone, with a stepped downstream face that remains of interest in engineering history. It is a rare surviving North African example of Roman dam construction rather than a later replacement.
