standing disused dams

Rindge Dam

By hello

This thin-arch concrete dam across Malibu Creek opened in 1924 and is associated with landowner May Knight Rindge. Sediment filled the reservoir far faster than intended; by the mid-20th century the dam had become inoperable, and it was later decommissioned. The structure is still standing and is now better known as a barrier to sediment transport and fish movement than as a water-supply work. (en.wikipedia.org) Unique attribute: it is a 100-foot concrete thin-arch dam in a dramatic canyon setting. (en.wikipedia.org) Plans to destroy it: dam-removal planning has been active for years; California Trout and Surfrider both describe removal as a priority.
