Geddes Dam

By hello

Geddes Dam is a decommissioned hydroelectric barrage on the Huron River. Built in 1919 by Detroit Edison, it was taken out of hydro service in 1959, rebuilt after a 1968 failure, and remains in place as part of a recreational landscape around Gallup Park and the Border-to-Border Trail. (en.wikipedia.org) Why it stayed: Ann Arbor left Geddes and nearby Argo Dam decommissioned because recommissioning offered poor economics, while full removal was also not funded. (en.wikipedia.org) Unique attribute: although no longer used for power, the impoundment still shapes one of Ann Arbor's busiest outdoor recreation areas.
