New York — arrivals and new beginnings

New York was a major destination for relatives who escaped Europe. George Heimberg emigrated to New York in 1913 and was naturalized in 1915. Henry and Charles Heimberg arrived in 1922. During the Nazi period, Ester Debra Heimberg, Artur Tarler, Curt Kornblau, Lillian and Edith Kornblau, and others arrived in New York. Helena and Joseph Feuerstein also reached New York, where Joseph moved into the diamond trade on 47th Street. Leo Safran arrived in New York in 1940 and later served in the U.S. Army.
