Josef Weintraub, husband of Julia Kessler, was deported from Vienna to the Theresienstadt ghetto on 1 April 1943 and perished afterwards. Theresienstadt was used by the Germans as a ghetto and labour pool; tens of thousands died there or were deported onward to killing sites.
