Boryslaw, southwest of Drohobycz, appears in the family records as the birthplace of several Kessler children, including Karoline / Keile, Ettel and Julia. In the late 19th century Boryslaw formed part of the Drohobycz administrative district and was tied to the region’s oil and wax boom. It was one of the Galician places from which the family later moved toward Vienna.
